Centre for Constitution and Public Policy (CCPP)

 

The Centre promotes the study of and research into issues of constitutional law, comparative constitutional law and its interface with public policy. The work of the Centre feeds into the University’s Constitutional Law and Public Policy Courses. The Centre also aims at developing an aptitude amongst the students to develop a critical eye into the public policy matters affecting the world as well as to enhance their knowledge regarding the importance, impact and varying nuances of the constitutional provisions, national and international alike. These aims are achieved by conducting seminars, special lectures and panel discussions.

Centre for Trans Studies (Rainbow)

 

This centre intends to spearhead sensitization against transphobia among students and general public at large. It aims to create awareness and empathy for the transgender community as well as LGBQIA+ clan through invited lectures, group discussions, interactive-meets, seminars and colloquiums etc. Trans-persons' welfare programmes are also one of the basic motives of this centre. It is expected that the Centre will certainly strive to inculcate the normative modus-operandi among budding lawyers regarding gender and sexuality related issues which are of great eminence in the field of law also.

Centre for Child Rights (CFCR)

 

The CFCR is a new initiative and a cell established by UILS in 2020. It seeks to promote and develop child protection rights and structures for promoting the same in and around our campus. At the CFCR, we envision a world where every child's rights are acknowledged, protected, and celebrated. Our vision is rooted in the belief that all children, regardless of their background, deserve to live in an environment that fosters their well-being, dignity, and development.

Centre for Women Development (CDW)

 

CDW strives to create a better and just society by empowering women and providing a unique platform for the development of its members. It works on building awareness on gender equity; developing responsible and value-oriented leadership in female students; and in building a society with social and economic gender equality through social service. It works on performance of skits and role plays; organizing group discussions, speeches, debates, essay writing, extempore, poster-making, etc on gender issues to sensitize students. It also organizes workshops and lectures by eminent and successful women. It also supports provision of basic amenities for hygiene (soaps, hand towels etc), education (copies, pen, pencil etc), old clothes, bread, milk powder etc to the needy.

Moot Court Society (MCS)

 

The MCS is a committee, formed with the aim of fostering a rich environment for legal education and practical skills development. In pursuance of this mission, MCS is dedicated towards organizing one Intra-Department Moot Court Competition and one Intra-Department Trial Advocacy competition along with two national moots. The primary goal is to provide a platform for students to sharpen their advocacy, research, and argumentation abilities through engaging mock trials in the department along with orientation sessions. The committee is managed by 30 enthusiastic students, with 3 post holders - President/Coordinator, Convenor and Co-Convenor.

Alternate Dispute Resolution & Client Counseling Board (ADR &ammp; CCL)

 

The Board has been set up with the objective of imparting arbitration, mediation and negotiation skills among budding lawyers. It facilitates the conduct of various events and organizes participation of students of UILS in national and international competitions. It works to convert the academic pursuit of Alternative Dispute Resolution into a groundbreaking reality by ensuring and imparting awareness and understanding of ADR as a comprehensive system. Through the formats of practical guidance/workshops/lectures on ADR methods from the experts and professionals the Board spreads and helps inculcate amongst the young budding professionals a wide range of skills. The ADR Board organizes each semester intra-department competitions for the students to test and sharpen their ADR skills.

Career Development Cell (CDC)

 

CDC aims to assist the students in interacting with like minds, emblazon their knowledge and boost their confidence, so as to bring up a more intellectually driven person. It provides a conducive environment for the all-around professional development of the students by providing them with the best of internship opportunities, skill-development sessions and placement opportunities. CDC was established for expanding the outreach of the Institute by monetizing on the vibrant potential of its students. It works relentlessly towards building connections with professional experts and fostering existing connections within the legal fraternity to meet the diverse aspirations of the students. CDC makes engage students with corporate firms, litigation, NGOs, Civil Society organizations. In addition to this, CDC also aids students with LLM and academia. CDC’s functions include:

  • Organizing internship drives .
  • Organizing guest lectures and workshops for career and personality development
  • Organizing placement drives for final year students
  • Assisting students in obtaining scholarships and fellowships.

Legal Aid Society & Clinic (LAS)

The society works to provide free legal aid to poor and helpless people. The clinic is established under the Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 and works in association with the State Legal Services Authorities (SLSA), Sector 9, Chandigarh. The Clinic provides a wide variety of free legal services which include free legal advice & consultation, mediation, conciliation and arbitration. It also offers opportunities to the students to work in co-ordination with practicing lawyers. The endeavor behind this ‘process’ is to enable students to understand that their professional responsibilities have a significant bearing on a wide range of persona and transactions. The aim is to spread legal awareness among students and people at large. This is achieved through the organization of various legal literacy camps, seminars, mediations, legal counselling sessions, public speaking, poster making, street plays etc.

Alumni Cell

The Alumni Cell was created to reach out to its alumni and develop mutual rapport among the alumni, faculty and students. We believe that every alumnus of our institution has some knowledge of their domain to be shared with students of UILS. As a dynamic body, it organizes the UILS Annual Alumni Meet. We regularly invite alumni for guest lectures, workshops, feedback and various academic and cultural programs in order to motivate students and to bridge the gap between the academic and professional world

Literary Society

Literary Society seeks to promote love for literature and language through numerous events. Inculcating in our law students some creativity, the society fosters a nurturing environment conducive to free thinking and thoughtful expression. It brings home unique ideas, valuable ideologies, and helps our students continuously evolve into better, hard working, and confident versions of themselves. For the knowledge hungry students, the society offers a platform to cultivate a passion for debating, creative writing and elocution among the students. Since the very time of its inception, the society has efficiently developed self-efficacy and confidence among the students in the disciplines of writing, speaking, and most importantly, communication.

Business and Economic Club (BEC)

The BEC organizes assorted events like quiz competitions, debates, essay writing competitions, etc., for the students. Eminent thinkers are invited to deliver lectures on current business and economic issues. It engages both faculty and students interested in issues and concerns in the field of economics and business.

UILS Student Assisted Academic Programme (USAAP)

USAAP is a new academic initiative started in August 2018 by the students of UILS to provide an opportunity to delve more deeply into coursework by actively studying, reviewing, and discussing course topics and issues in a relaxed atmosphere outside the classroom. It is also to help students who are unable to comprehend certain subjects and hence are in need of additional and special academic attention. It provides a regular platform for interested students, who are called Teacher Associates (TAs), to teach, discuss and help their student-fraternity in academics in the form of pedagogy. It also assists students to learn skills such as leadership, management, organization, teaching, communication, presentation and enables them to chisel their analytical powers which are integral to the life of a professional lawyer, a social engineer, a corporate attorney and a fine academician.
